NEUTRAL ATMOSPHERE
Gas or gas mixture of predetermined composition, filling the furnace chamber. Depending on their action under certain processing conditions, different types of atmospheres are distinguished.
A neutral atmosphere is said of an atmosphere which has no action on a product under given conditions (e.g. nitrogen on iron, nickel or cobalt-based steels and alloys at average temperatures [600-700° C], or even argon).
